Caux Round Table Malaysia together with Khazanah Nasional, hosted a Corporate Social Responsibiity roundtable meeting with Her Excellency Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordon.

big Pictures was called to document the event, which saw heads of top Malaysian companies (from the public and private sectors, considered leaders of CSR in this region) come together, sharing their involvement in CSR with the Queen.

Nikt Wong was sent to do a local culture story and pictures piece for Going Places (In-flight magazine for Malaysia airlines).

Mek Mulung is a dying art. It is barely kept alive by its bloodline of original founders, now settled in Kampung Wang Tepus in the northern part of Kedah, Malaysia. Mek Mulung is not just a performing arts, but also incorporates elements of spirit and ancestor worship.

Wildlife Conservation Society together with Cambodia’s ministry of environment are working on this project. It concerns the conservation of two birds; The Giant Ibis and the White shouldered Ibis, both thought to be extinct accept in areas around the village. The eco-tourism project is neat. Educate the villagers about conservation > bring in the tourists (in this case birders) > the money flows in> money is used to to help develop the village> in return for the flow, the villages help conserve the birds. The impact of tourists are also mitigated by ways of responsible tourism.

Pass The Picture project was the creation of photographers and curators from 10 different countries who met for the first time during the 1st Berlin Festival in 2005.

Its OBJECTIVE
To enable a multinational pool of photographers to interpret and express work from just a single image, with no regulated theme, subject or text and within their own understanding and cultural context.

By allowing the project to take a free course to any place in the world creates an immediate network of photographers whose paths may never cross otherwise. It is hoped that the 50 project participants can converge, exchange, build and expand on their shared interests, perhaps at the launch exhibition or during the touring exhibitions.

In Dec 2007, Nikt Wong from big Pictures Media was commissioned by Berlitz publishing to photograph the Berlitz Pocket Guide Phuket, a popular title in their award-winning Berlitz guide series.

Nikt spent a month in Phuket photographing beach life, local attractions, national parks and daily life in one of the most busiest holiday destinations in the world. He says that although Phuket has a ‘dirty’ reputation, it is endowed with amazingly beautiful and diversified attractions. It has everything for everyone, from turquoise waters and hedonistic activities to family attractions and ecotourism packages. (crowds aside, bottom line is…..its beautiful!)

Many may imagine that such work is fun and easy, but in reality, its just like any job – to do well you have to deliver quality work. Nikt says, he is always fighting with the weather and available light. Those are variables that will determine half the quality of work produced. The other half is your personal talent and the ‘Art of Being There’.

Colourful Encounters in Terengganu

This book will most likely be out by March 2008. Nikt Wong our photographer drove through the 6 districts of Terengganu over a period of 3 weeks to shoot various elements of Terengganu life. The book offers a peek into Terengganu lifestyle and notable personalities. These are some of the visual highlights that will be appearing in the March issue of the Malaysian Tatler gallery, together with an interview with Datin Nona, the creator of ‘Senyum Sokmo’.

This coffee table book is currently in its final stages before print. It will probably be available in bookstores by mid-Jan 2008. A gift for Visit Terengganu 2008!
